Whilst I have been busy with the visitor room build, Rob has been busy arranging the build of a new cow shed at Sandfield Farm.

When the calves are eight weeks old we move them from Greystone Farm and take them to Sandfield Farm.

So today was the big day. We had to take the solar hot water system off the old classroom roof, wash it, transport it to the visitor room and position it onto the new stand.
The solar water system provides lovely warm hand washing water for the visitors to wash off any mud, charcoal or blackberry juice, they may have encountered during the on-farm activities.

Re-cycled Wood Chip

Ever wondered what happens to the wood thrown out in domestic skips? Our local skip company drops it off at both Greystone and Sandfield Farms. Once the skip hire company picks up the full skip, the material in the skip is sorted and where ever possible recycled. Some of the wood collected is turned into wood chips and then bought to our farms to be used for cow bedding.

It has been a cold and busy morning. The new visitor room is up but there is still lots of work to do. Tess and Heather are varnishing every single bit of exposed wood, which is a lot. I am so glad they agreed to take on the work. Ian is busy putting in the DDA compliant toilet and Mike has been wiring in the outside lights.
