Famous Faces Year 2

A wet day for Year 2 from Sedgeberrow C of E First School! The children did very well in damp and cold conditions. The topic today was Famous Faces. We started the morning learning about Edward Jenner, a Gloucestershire man, who linked Cow Pox and Small Pox, experimented with a Gloucester breed cow and invented vaccination.

We then moved on to look at the one year old heifers in the shed. I explained to the children about the recycled wood chip the cows were lying on. Then armed with a board, pencil and paper the children chose a heifer to draw. Whilst the heifers stood and munched their morning silage, the children chose an animal and drew its face, concentrating on the markings and ear tags.

Braving the rain we walked up to the small wood and used sticks, leaves and straw to recreate the children’s Head Teachers’ face. The children thought about how to represent his glasses and beard.

After lunch, the weather was still very damp and so the children completed an activity book and made cow masks. At the end of the day the children had a play in the play wood and managed not to get too muddy!
