It has been a busy day in the new visitor room. I am under a little time pressure as the first visitors to the new room are coming to the farm this Friday. Today I had the help of dad and Veronica armed with their drills. Although first thing this morning the temperature wasn’t too bad, the wind picked up and I did hear a few mutterings about cold hands as we headed towards lunchtime.
It is official, the dogs and I have now moved from the old classroom to the new visitor room. The water bowl for the dogs now has its new place and both Nellie dog and Fly dog have drunk from the bowl. The metal foot in the picture sits at the bottom of a support post and will be adjusted as the wooden building moves with time. Love the idea of a ‘living building’.
All the cows at Greystone Farm are safely in their winter housing. At Sandfield Farm the young heifers are in the sheds but the older dry cows are out on the field enjoying the fodder beet. The crisp frosty weather is fantastic for
Whilst I have been busy with the visitor room build, Rob has been busy arranging the build of a new cow shed at Sandfield Farm.
When the calves are eight weeks old we move them from Greystone Farm and take them to Sandfield Farm.
So today was the big day. We had to take the solar hot water system off the old classroom roof, wash it, transport it to the visitor room and position it onto the new stand.
The solar water system provides lovely warm hand washing water for the visitors to wash off any mud, charcoal or blackberry juice, they may have encountered during the on-farm activities.
